I've always loved traveling ...
but live in London. Don't get me wrong, London is a great city and I often pinch myself as I walk past Buckingham Palace on the way to work; running along the Southbank; enjoying some great ales in decent boozers. But I've always felt there is so much more out there to see in the world than the River Thames.
After spending some time with my inner Yoda and learning a few Jedi mind tricks, I decided to make a positive change in my life, take a little bit of risk and have managed to persuade my (very understanding) work to give me a career break for 12 months ... yup a full 12 months without restriction - no work or the company blackberry and no commuting in the rain.
What is my plan for the next 12 months? Definitely a lot of box ticking.
- Challenging myself physically ... climbing big things, running around some places and jumping off others.
- Seeing some amazing sights ... I have always wanted to see the snow on Kilimanjaro, a lemur in a tree in Madagascar instead of in London zoo.
- Experiencing some great urban landscapes ... I'm a city dweller and I enjoy urban exploring, I look forward to getting lost in La Paz
- Meeting some interesting people ... any travel experience is only as good as the people you share it with, I'm looking forward to meeting the new friends I'm going to make along the way.
- Sampling the unique food and drink of this world ... I'm not the best cook (Cheerios do officially count as supper) but I love new and interesting flavors. I'm not going to be going all 'Bear Grills' and eating roadkill, but is Mexican tequila better in Mexico than in Balham? I'll hopefully find out.
