A year off traveling the world ... but where to go and see?
My journey begins in October this year with a 12 month window to go and see the world. You would think deciding where to go is easy, but with a full 12 months the hardest part is the planning ... where on earth should I go and what should I do when I get there? Being an accountant, to me this is also one of the most exciting bits as I get to research and plan ahead, even with the occasional spreadsheet ... What's the weather like in Mexico in February and does it correlate precisely with my itinerary? The beauty of T'internet is I can hopefully plan that when I get on the ground and am standing outside Dar Es Salaam train station trying to find my Kilimanjaro Express train to Zambia that I don't feel too lost.
So like any accountant my planned route is relatively safe avoiding the glamour hot spots of Baghdad and Timbuktu.
The thought process to my route is challenging myself physically like climbing Kilimanjaro; seeing some interesting places off the beaten path like Madagascar; and spending time is some crazy cities like La Paz, Bolivia. My route is by no means finalised and like any person with a backpack I can change my mind and decide to go anywhere at the drop of the hat.
I'm going to be writing a regular blog on this website, probably about exploits of me getting sun burnt a lot (inevitable); ticking lots of boxes on the world map and hopefully not being involved with too many misdemeanors ... but then that's what hopefully makes this adventure all the more interesting.
It would be great to hear any suggestions, thoughts and ideas about where to go, places to visit or not visit, what local beers to drink and how to get the most out of my journey. Drop me a message at the bottom of this page...
